I do not think there is any eminent danger but I can understand your concern for you and the welfare of your family.

I would suggest that you turn the power off to the dishwasher and have a service technician check to see what happened.

It certainly sounds like it will need to be serviced.

If the start light flashes but doesn't start I'd suggest checking the door switches.

Being inactive during the 5 weeks you were gone shouldn't have caused any problems.

Something else to try is running a diagnostic test. You don't use the start keypad. The instructions are in the image below.

If still nothing works then I'd start by removing the console and checking the door switches. Remember to turn the power to the dishwasher off first.
