From what you're describing it sounds like the belt may not be installed correctly or something is binding up the drum. I recommend inspecting the belt to make sure it is installed correctly. If the belt is installed correctly I suspect the drum bearing or drum supports. These components can be inspected after removing the drum.

I am sending you a link that explains step by step access & repair instructions. Please click on the link below.

From what you're describing I suspect the front or rear drum bearing. This is usually where a squealing noise will come from on this model of GE dryer. I recommend checking the rear bearing first. First, disconnect power to the dryer. I am sending you the images from another link that covers this type of access & repair instructions. Please click on the link below.

Another possibility is the motor or idler pulley.

From what you're describing something like this is usually caused by the rear drum bearing. The rear center section of the drum has a Teflon sleeve for the bearing. When this Teflon bearing sleeve wears down you will be metal to metal creating a loud high pitched noise while the dryer is running.

Another possibility is the front drum bearing so I'm sending you the repair for that job also. Please click on the link highlighted below for the instructions & part numbers.
