Question and Answers

Q:

Is it possible to get an extension for the hose? DP840SWSX0 Whirlpool Dishwasher

A:

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your question about extension hoses for your Whirlpool Portable Dishwasher. I understand how inconvenient it would be to have to move the dishwasher up and down a step every time you want to use it. I will be happy to help you with this.

The manufacturer does not make an extension kit for the water hose coupler assembly that hooks up to the faucet. It is because the pump is not made to remove water from the tub for any greater distances. Extending the hoses would decrease the efficiency of the dishwasher and cause major parts like the pump and motor to fail prematurely. A better option may be to make a small ramp to help move the dishwasher up and down the step.

I am sorry we do not have an extension hose assembly for your issue. I hope my explanation helps. If you need further assistance, please resubmit your question with additional details. Thank you for choosing Sears, We appreciate your business.

The portable dishwasher you have must have the case removed to replace the drain hose. It is very easy if you have done it before, but difficult for anyone who is not accustom to working on appliances. Here are the instructions and I will assist with any questions along the way.

What kind of screw driver do I need? The screws are small and don't look like a regular phillips. Neither size of my phillips would work either. I'm going to need to print these intstructions out.... can you send me them in another format? I'm unable to print them in this format and they're much too small to read anyway.

Nevermind I was actually able to save the picture and print it, but I still need to know what kind of screw driver to use? I haven't been able to find anything that works... not even a butter knife. Also, any clue how much it would cost me to have someone service this for me? Just an estimation would be great so I can decide if it's worth the trouble of doing it myself.

The screws may be 1/4 inch nut driver style. It may not be the orginial screws installed. For a service call the trip a depending on the region of the country, may run up to 120.00. Could you send me the picture of the screws in question.

I'm actually at work but the screw looks like the very top screw, 3rd from the left, the first thread cutting machine screw .... it's kind of like a star so I'm not sure what I need to use to remove it but the phillips felt like it was almost stripping it so I quit.

That is what is called a torx screw and the most common is a torx 10 or 15 but I would recommend a torx bit set and the link is for the sets of torx and I will let to look and make sure this is what we are talking about.

Dirty dishes and not draining does sound like there is debris in the filter and impeller areas.

A common problem with draining in this dishwasher is that the check valve at the bottom of the sump will get clogged. I would not neglect the drain hose. Make sure there is no kink or clog. The link provided by Henry has good information and the image at the bottom of that link will help understand the areas that need to be accessed.

These two videos may provide the demonstration needed. The first is a simple how to clean the filter from; Kenmore .

The second video goes a bit further. View here; Video .

The parts image for your model is the image below. If the dishwasher continues to not drain or perform poorly, further checks for the pump may be needed. I hope this information helps clean out the filter area. Please reply if further assistance is needed. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
