It is upsetting when the dryer does not dry properly. The first items to thoroughly check are the vents. Verify there is no buildup in the vent or at the damper to the outside. A good check is to disconnect the vent from the back of the dryer while running a medium load of wet clothes. You can check the temperature at the back of the dryer with a thermometer. It should read between 120 to 150 degrees. If the dryer dries the clothes properly with the vent disconnected, then there is a restriction in the vent system. If the dryer is still not heating, reconnect the vent and check the igniter to see if it is glowing. Remove the small square plastic inspection cover located below and left of the door. Start the dryer and watch though the opening for a red glow of the igniter.

Do you see the igniter glowing? If the igniter is glowing and you hear a click from the flame sensor but there is no flame then most likely the gas coils or valve is bad. Make sure the gas supply is turned on. If there is not an issue with the gas supply you will need to test the valves. This would require a ohm meter. The image below provides information but I highly recommend having a technician make these checks and repairs. You can schedule a Sears technician here; Sears Home Services .

If you do proceed with these checks yourself, remember to disconnect power to the dryer.

If the gas valve checks good, then the operating thermostat, high limit thermostat or thermal fuse may be the problem.
