Question and Answers

Q:

Can a faulty blower wheel cause my gas dryer burner to stay on for only 5 seconds before going out?

A:

If the blower wheel is slipping on the motor shaft it can definitely cause the flame to cycle off quickly because lack of air flow. I'm not aware of any large bolt to remove in order to access the blower wheel unless it is not a Maytag dryer. Without knowing the model number of your Maytag dryer I will not be able to provide specific instructions on how to remove your blower wheel. After removing the front panel by removing the two screws near the bottom of the panel and then pulling the bottom outwards and then down the blower wheel is accessible by removing the blower housing cover. I added an image of the blower housing and blower wheel of a gas Maytag dryer. The blower wheel is usually held on by a small clamp and a c-clip retaining ring. See image below.

Resubmit your question with the model number and additional details of your dryer for model specific instructions.

MY REPLY TO THE EXPERT. Thanks. Here's the Model # DG412. It is a Maytag gas dryer. The blower wheel part # is 3-12913. Front panel, vent panel are removed. I'm able to get to the wheel but (embarrassed here) I can't get the C-ring and clip off the front. There's limited space and I'm not sure how to remove it. Any advice here? Thanks again.
