Thank you for your question.

To install the replacement belt on your dryer you will need to move the dryer out from the wall to gain access not only to the front of the dryer but also to the back where the small access panel is located when you need to finish installing the belt of the motor and idler pulley.

  • First remove the power to the dryer, either by unplugging from the wall socket, or turning off the circuit breaker at the power box. It is very important that the power be disconnected before you start to dismantle for repair.
  • Pull the dryer away from the wall and remove the vent hose assembly if it is long enough you may not have to do this step.
  • Remove the two phillips screws at either side at the bottom of the front panel, and hinged out from the bottom and release the panel from the top.
  • Be careful with the wires that attach the wire harness to the door switch on inside of the front panel. If you have room you may not have to remove the wires from the switch but it may be easier to disconnect the wires, just take note of where they attach.
  • At this time you will see the from bulk head that is attached to the side panels of the dryer cabinet.
  • Remove the screws that secures the front bulk head to the dyer cabinet, taking note of the lint box assembly and it location on the blower housing. When you remove this panel the dryer drum will not be supported.

  • This would be a good time to remove the drum and clean the excess lint that has accumulated with a vacuum cleaner. You can lift the drum out at this time.
  • While you are cleaning the cabinet take note of where the motor and belt tensioner idler is located.
  • A visual picture of how the belt tensioner and belt path is routed will be helpful when you install the belt on the idler and motor pulley from the access panel in the rear of the cabinet.

  • At this point you can slide the old belt off if it is not broken and slide the new belt around the drum and locate the wear path that the belt has made and locate at this point.
  • Once you have this done you can re-assemble the front assembly.
  • Once you have that done you can go to the back of the dryer and locate the small removable access panel on the bottom right of the cabinet. Remove the screws that panel and you will now have access to the new belt, idler pulley, and the motor pulley.
  • To install the belt around the motor pulley and then around the idler pulley.
  • With all cabinet parts reinstalled, re-connect power to the dryer and test operation.
  • If everything works ok re-connect dryer vent, move back into place being careful not to damage or crush the vent material. Re-level dryer and test run.
I have included a picture that you can reference for the belt path. Note the tension spring/idler pulley can sometimes be difficult to install because of the position your in, with only the small access hole.
  • Once you have got the belt installed rotate the drum by hand two full rotations to make sure the belt is tracking correctly and doesn't jump off the motor pulley.

  • [If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
