Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my GE dryer stay running when I release the start knob?

A:

If the drum belt is broken or if the broken belt switch is open the dryer is not going to stay running once you release the start knob. If you find the drum rotating, the problem will be in the wire circuit between the start switch and the broken belt switch or between the broken belt switch and motor. See the image below with the wiring circuit. Follow the Brown wire coming off of the start switch and it will lead you to the broken belt switch (idler spring switch) and then it goes over and attaches to the M6 terminal on the motor. If voltage is not present at terminal M6 the motor will not remain running once the motor switch closes M5 to M6.

I recommend calling a service technician to repair your dryer.
