Q:

Lawn Tractor 917251572

A:

Hello, glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. We, at Sears, value your service.

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is problems with the lawnmower not starting.

Glad to help out.  I’m looking at your Craftsman Tractor model number 917251572.

Please check the solenoid, starter and your battery cable lines first.

Make sure you have cleaned the cables off with a wire brush.   Even if they look clean.

1.  If the starter does not spin when your turn the ignition key.  It is the time to check the solenoid.

2.  The solenoid is usually a small black box directly connected to the battery by the red (positive) wire.

3.  You will find 2 large posts on the solenoid.  Take a look at the post where the red wire connect too and a wire on the other post.   The two posts will be directly in line.

4.  Bridge the gap between the two post with your insulated screwdriver.  If the starter spins when you make contact, the solenoid is bad:  Now if the starter does not spin then the starter is bad.

Put some carburetor fluid in the carburetor and see if it will start.   It it is turning over but not staying running then most likely you have a carburetor or air problem.   If you have used dirty fuel in your tanks (that is fuel that has been sitting to the side for more than 1 week) then most likely your carburetor and fuel lines are bad and need to be replaced.

There is two items that will give your engine a spark and that is the spark plug and the armature/magneto (the part that the spark plug wire is connected too).

I see you have a Kohler engine with a model number of CV25S-69511.  I do not see a compression relief valve on this engine.

Thank you for your question.

I have checked the part number and this head does not come complete. You have to install the valves in the new head. I have provided you with an image below of the head.
