Make sure that all of the burners are completely turned to the OFF position.

If all of the burners are off, then your symptoms indicate that one of the burner switches is likely stuck in the closed (light) position. You will likely need to have a service technician repair this type of problem. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

To diagnose and repair this type of failure yourself, you would need to unplug the cook top or shut off the circuit breaker to completely disconnect electrical power. Next, you would need to pull the cook top out of the counter and access the valve switches. Disconnect the black wire(s) from one switch and tape the bare lead with electrical tape. Reassemble the range and power it back up to see if the igniters constantly tick. If they do then you will need to unplug the cook top (or shut off the breaker) and replace the wires on the first switch that you checked. Move on to check the next switch. Pull the black wire(s) off and tape them the bare lead with electrical tape to keep it from shorting to the metal frame of the cook top. Reassemble and test the range. Continue this process until you isolate the bad switch. Once you find the bad switch, you can replace it. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. The part number for the burner switch is 7403P367-60.
