Question and Answers

Q:

Why does my Maytag gas range display F3?

A:

From what you are describing it sounds like the oven sensor harness is either shorted or open. Since you stated that you installed a new oven temperature sensor, I would recommend checking the sensor wiring harness from the electronic control down to the sensor plug connector. If the wiring harness checks out OK, I recommend replacing the electronic oven control.

Q:

What does F3 mean on the display of my Maytag model CHG9800BAE range?

A:

You need to measure the ohms of the temperature sensor. At room temperature it should measure 1000-1100 ohms. Measure the resistance at the sensor connector and again from the control. A bad connection will cause high resistance. The control turns the fan on when the oven reaches around 350 degrees.

If the sensor checks good the control has failed.
