Question and Answers

Q:

I need to replace the burner switch

A:

It is always good to keep up with the maintenance of am appliance, especially with an everyday used appliance like the range. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I noticed that someone else had asked a similar question with a posted response from an expert. I attached the link below for you to view. I hope the link that I provided is helpful.

Replacing the burner switch on this type of range will normally require the cook top to be raised and the manifold to be accessed to replace this switch. I provided an illustrated procedure for this repair in the images below (6 pages). I recommend that you carefully review that procedure and decide whether you will be able to complete it yourself. You will normally need the burner removal tool part 8312D075-60 to safely remove the sealed burner. I do not see this part available from the Sears PartsDirect source or other normal parts sources. You may be able to find a used burner wrench on the internet using a search engine such as Google.com. If you are not able to find this wrench or a tool that you can use to remove the burners, then you will likely need to have a technician replace this burner switch. Here is a link for the Sears Service website in case you need it: Sears Home Services .

If you can safely remove the sealed burners and you are confident that you can complete this repair, then you should be able to use the procedure shown below to replace the burner switch.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Here are additional pages of the procedure. Be sure that you UNPLUG the range and shut off the gas supply before beginning this repair.

I can't see how the wires attach/detach on the switch.

The wires will push into the fittings of the new switch that are circled in the image below. You will need to pull the wires out of the old switch and transfer them to the new switch (with the range UNPLUGGED). The old wires may be corroded and difficult to remove. If necessary, you can cut the wires off of the old switch close to the burner switch. Strip the ends of the wires and connect them to the new switch.

Thank you Lyle - that is exactly the information I was looking for. I've never had a gas stove with electronic ignition. I was cleaning behind the knobs and I guess some water ran down the shaft as two of the switches arced when I tried lighting the burners after cleaning.
