That lever part 74010243 attaches to the door lock assembly part 74009710 (shown as Key 11 on the parts diagram in the first image). That part 74009710 has the switch installed on it. The second image shows a photograph of that component with the switch circled in red. The 3rd and 4th images show revised components or kits that may have been installed on the lock mechanism of that range. That information should help you fix this problem. If that lock mechanism 74009710 is broken or the switch is bad, you can order that part (74009710) from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a direct link for that part: Door Latch . Be sure that you unplug the range before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you get to a point where you need to have a service technician help you repair this range failure, you can schedule one through this link: Sears Home Services .

The Old lever has about an inch and a half sticking out as shown in the drawing you sent. Hence it can make contact with the switch, the NEW lever does not have this. I am only trying to replace a broken lever PN#74010243 which is a substituted part. If I install it the switch will not be utilized . What does the switch do??? and or will it matter with the new part???

The switch is checked by the clock control board to determine whether the oven door is locked before the self clean cycle will begin. I provided a wiring diagram in the image below with that circuit traced in red. I also circled the condition that is required for the clean cycle in that chart below that wiring diagram. Based on your description, that lever is probably intended for use with the revised door lock motor component that is part 74009710. I understand your desire to just replace the lever but that is probably not possible based on your description. That lever is apparently intended to be matched with the substituted motor assembly 74009710. To complete this repair, you will likely need to order and replace the motor assembly 74009710 so that the lever will fit properly and the switch will be properly closed when the oven door is locked. I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

So it would seem that the new lever is meant to be used with a "revised" door lock which would incur more cost. I've had several venders try to order these levers and they can only come up with the same ones. would it be possible that these older model levers (Like the one I'm trying to replace) are still available some where?

I doubt if that original lever is still available but I will conduct some research and try to find it. I will update this thread as soon as possible with more information regarding that original lever.

I have checked all of the available parts resources and I did not find that original lever part available. It does not appear that you will be able to replace that original lever.
