Q:

How do I set the self cleaning cycle on my Kenmore oven?

A:

I don't find information on your model of range based on the information in your detail. The following procedure describes the process for using the self-clean cycle on most Kenmore Mark 3 ranges:

  1. Remove all articles from inside the oven including the racks.
  2. Wipe out the oven bottom if there are large clumps of food or puddles of grease.
  3. Set the start time of the clean cycle using the start dial on the clock. If you want to start the clean cycle immediately, set the start dial to the same point as the current time of day.
  4. Set the end time of the clean cycle several hours later based on the length of time that you want the oven to stay in the clean cycle. Three hours is usually adequate.
  5. Slide the door lock lever over to lock the oven door.
  6. Set the oven control to CLEAN.
During the clean cycle, the oven will heat to extremely high temperatures and the door will remain locked. You may experience smoke coming out of the oven vent depending on how dirty the oven is. Make sure that the house is well ventilated and protect birds and pets from exposure to excessive smoke. Do not attempt to open the oven door until the oven is completely cooled.

This general procedure should help you clean your oven properly. If in doubt concerning the proper procedure for cleaning your oven, I recommend that you avoid using the self cleaning cycle.
