The most important maintenance you can perform is to the door and hardware. Make sure you lubricate bearings and hinges. Release the door from the opener occasionally and lift it manually. If it is heavy for you it is heavy for the opener. Springs weaken with age and cause the opener to work too hard. When you purchase the 41c4220a sprocket assembly the instructions come with the part on how to install. Follow those instructions and if you have questions post back here.

Thanks for the feedback I've received so far. I typed the wrong model # above it should be 139.53962SRT1 which correlates to gear and sprocket kit 41C220A not the 41C4220A which matches another model I was told by customer service. Without having an image to go with 41C200A kit I can't tell if it visually matches. Part for part the kits match description wise though. Unfortunately the kit I need is not priced on the parts website and when I called they aren't sure what's going on and will have to contact Craftsman to research it.

As far as maintenance to the opener you can put a little grease on the nylon wheel on install, but the opener is maintenance free. Don't grease the rail, it will leave a black line down your door and possibly get on the car during operation. Maintaining your door is the best thing you can do for your opener. The opener operates the door and if it is running poorly or if something is broken on it the opener still tries to run it. You can get a replacement part at searspartsdirect.com, enter in your model number and a parts list will come up. There is an option to buy the nylon gear set or the whole shaft set. I would recommend the whole set. Just make sure the opener is at the end of the open or close sequence(even if the door does not move), then determine if it is all the way open or closed and after gear shaft replacement and hook the chain up accordingly. Make sure and unplug the unit before and and do a 2x4 safety test afterward. Also set force and limits as outlined in the owners manual. If you need to download a manual go to managemylife.com, under the manual icon. Thanks BB
