Question and Answers

Q:

fuel leak BL100 Bolens Trimmer

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

On these smaller carburetors, there is an internal check valve that prevents the fuel from coming out. If that valve is damaged, there is nothing preventing the fuel from flowing out freely. There is no way to repair that, and a replacement carburetor (753-04106) will be needed to solve the issue.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the trimmer. If the fuel mixture in the trimmer is older than 5 weeks old, it should be drained. Then refill with fresh fuel mix. If this does not help I suspect there is a problem with the fuel system. I recommend checking in the fuel tank first. When you look in the tank, you should see a fuel line with a white filter attached to the end. Then inspect the fuel line. If it is hard and brittle, it has to be replaced. Here is a video that shows how to replace the fuel line. If the fuel line is fine, I suspect the carburetor is to blame. The carburetor will have to be cleaned or replaced. You could be correct about the diaphragm. It could have a small hole. Be sure to look it over closely if you decide to clean the carburetor.  Here is a video that show how to clean the carburetor. Before you remove the carburetor, make sure to note the fuel line and cable connections. This will save a lot of frustration later. The parts for the trimmer can be ordered from the following link.   If this does not cure the problem, I recommend removing the muffler. Then check the operation. If the engine runs fine, you need to clean the screen in the muffler.   I hope this helpful. If you need further assistance, please reply below with more details.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears  technician.  Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations:  Sears Home Services

Thank you for contacting SearsPartsDirect.com with your questions about replacing the primer bulb on your Bolens Trimmer. I am sorry to hear the bulb needs to be replaced. I will be happy to help you with this. When I reviewed the Bolens Model number BL100 I found 5 different owner's manuals and parts lists for this trimmer.  When I checked the primer for each parts list, I came up with three different primer bulbs. The good news is that the three primers that were the same have all been replaced  by one of the two remaining bulbs, leaving us just two bulbs to choose from. If you have your owner's manual, on either the front or rear cover, there will be a part number (p/n) that starts with 769. With that complete number, or the year your trimmer was made, I can determine which is the correct bulb for you.

I have included the links for you to view both bulbs.

I am also including the parts diagram so you will be able to see where bolts are located and what parts will need to be removed to replace the primer.

I have included a link for a video by the manufacturer on how to maintain the trimmer. It will cover cleaning the air filter and changing the spark plug and will give you a start on how to access the primer which is behind the filter assembly.

I hope this helps. Please respond to this thread if I can be of any further assistance. Thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business.
