Q:

Model #BHD-301 Dehumidifier runs at startup for approx. 5 minutes and then shuts off. Will not restart after that BHD-301 Comfort Aire Dehumidifier

A:

There is a possibility that a faulty overload is causing this problem. You could also have a bad compressor that is overheating and causing a legitimate trip of the overload.

A problem with the settings, the sensor or the main PCB control board could also cause that failure.

Check the settings. Make sure that the humidity setting is adjusted properly.

Unplug the dehumidifier and check the wiring between the main PCB control board and the components. Check to see if the compressor is getting extremely hot after running for only 5 minutes. If that compressor is bad, then it will need to be replaced. A technician would need to complete that repair since it involves the handling of refrigerant. Carry the unit into your nearest Sears Repair Center or Sears Store for service if necessary.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Thanks for the question about your dehumidifier frosting up. I will be happy to help with this issue.

the most common reason for frost build up on the evaporator coil is due to ambient temperature. If the room where the unit is located reaches 65 degrees or less frost will accumulate quickly. Most dehumidifiers have a notice in the owners manual about this and recommend not using under these conditions.

The other reasons for frosting would be setting at too low of humidity level that would not allow the compressor to cycle properly during operation. If you have a very high humidity level try setting moderate, then lowering as humidity lowers. (First two hours set at moderate then change to desired humidity level. This will work if the unit is sized properly for the area being used in. (if the dehumidifier is undersized for the area then you will get frost build up as well.) I hope this helps solve the problem. If you need additional help reply with details.

Thanks Ron H.
