Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't the door latch open on my Amana double oven model AO27DG after running the self cleaning cycle?

A:

The door latch can only be operated when the temperature control and selector are set to the clean position. Make sure that these controls are set properly when unlocking the door.

You could have a mechanical failure of the door lock mechanism or a failure in the momentary door latch switch that is preventing the door from being unlocked. You did not mention whether the upper or lower oven door latch is stuck. If the lower door latch is stuck, then I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair this problem. The upper door latch is easier to access. The first image below provides the procedure for accessing the upper door latch. You can view a parts diagram of your oven on the Sears PartsDirect website. Be sure to use your full model number (AO27DG-P1113401S or AO27DG-P1113405S) to access the parts diagram for your oven. If you are able to access the oven door latch assembly, you may be able to determine the failed part. The second image below describes the theory of operation and provides component testing information for this type of door latch assembly. You may be able to use this information if you find no apparent failed components in the mechanical portion of the latch assembly.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full model number of your Amana double oven.
