Q:

Amana refrigerator with french doors with bottom freezer drawer lights flashing and ice dispencer opening and closing? Model AFI2538AEW serial 12563714LR

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help with your refrigerator. Upon researching model AFI2538AEW; it sounds like the control board in back of the control panel may have failed. The control board governs the functions of the dispenser it can also control the temperature settings, so when it fails the dispenser and the temperature settings can become unresponsive. I have posted a link of the control board for the dispenser to view the link click here.

I trust this information will help you, have a great day.

Thank you for your question. I can understand your concern about the display lights flashing. This problem is usually caused by the main control board. Sometimes resetting the board may correct this problem. To reset the control, disconnect the power for 30 seconds and then reconnect it. If the lights still continue to flash, the main control board will probably need to be replaced. I would recommend having a technician check this first. I'm listing a site you can access, to schedule a tech to come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services. To determine the correct board for this refrigerator, the complete serial number will be needed. If you would like more assistance, reply to this thread with the serial number and I will assist you further.

This can be a difficult icemaker to remove even for technicians. I'm sending you some pictures with instructions to remove the icemaker. I hope this helps you.

If there were some ice cubes stuck in the top, they may have diverted the water flow causing the water leak. Since is seems to be working ok now, I recommend leaving the icemaker in and running but keeping a close watch for a leak. If it continues to work ok for a couple of days, suspect you solved the problem. If you need more assistance, additional details will be needed.

Interesting that as I was searching for information on water leaking from our Maytag French door frig, I ran across a description of the same problem in the same ice maker, right down to removing 2 stuck ice cubes. Our's were stuck in the pivoting arm that apparently has something to do with shutting the ice maker off under certain conditions. Water was literally spewing from the door dispenser! I shut off our water, cleared the ice cubes, unplugged the frig for a short time, turned the water back on, and now for three days all seems fine. How can we ever trust this refrigerator again? Help Please!
