Specifically, none of the diagram for the breakdown of parts resembles mu refrigerator. The dispensor for ice will activate the water dispencor, but will not activate the Ice screw to dispense Ice. Nothing in the parrts diagram online looks even close to what I see in front of me. From the lights, temp controls, shape of face plate. location of the two screws securing the face plate in the diagram are no part of my refrigerator/freezer. I attained the model # from inside the food comparrtment on the right hand side about eye level. The Serial # KO2995974 is also located on the same label/tag.

Q:

Amana AFI2538AEB refrigerator - ice maker problem Amana Amana refrigerator

A:

Thanks for contacting manage my life about your refrigerator model AFI2538AEB; sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you. You are correct in the suspicion that a frozen line in this location is not the issue.   You can test the water valve however and that would be my suggestion.  I would suggest also that there could be a problem within the ice maker itself not calling for water. You should insure that the ice room is reaching the sub-freezing temperature needed for ice production (around 5 degrees is ideal.) You should be advised that the ice maker in your unit is obsolete and is no longer available; however a new replacement kit has been recently made available.  I hope this helps, if you need more help reply with added details and I will be happy to respond. If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services.Ron H.

Thank you for your question. I'm sorry you are having this problem with your refrigerator model # AFI2538AEB. This can be a very complicated model to service. The water overflowing would lead to a defective water valve. It has been found that with some of these models, if the top shelves are below the slant in the icemaker housing, it will restrict air flow across the thermistor in the top and can cause this freezing condition. In this case, raise the shelves to the second notch in the ladder, which will place the shelves even with the slant in the housing. The thermistor in this model will be in the light housing. Squeeze the tabs on each side pull downward and then pull forward to lower it. Be sure to disconnect the power first. I'm attaching the information in the first image of how to access the reservoir and the second image shows how to remove the icemaker, which can be difficult. I would strongly recommend having a technician check this fridge and make the repairs. I'm listing a site you can access to have a tech come out. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home ServicesIf you would like more assistance, reply to this thread and I will assist you further.

Scott, Thanks. The shelves are in the correct position. Either I have not received the image attachments or I haven't figured out where they are. Please re-send the information images. I plan to test the watervalve first. I think the thermister is fine. With the icemaker turned off. The thermister is regulating the refrigerator temperature fine . I can adjust the temperature up and down and it corresponds correctly with thermometer. I suspect my problem is with the icemaker itself.

Scott, Thanks. I was able to get the pictures through the Manage My Life site. The pictures are a big help. I'll give it a try. Is there any way to check the icemaker cycle on this particular model. I see where others you can use a jumper wire to test. This particular model does not appear to have the feature where one can use jumper wires. Again, thanks.

Scott, I was able to get the icemaker out and the cover to the reservoir off. I reversed the connections on the water pump motors for the icemaker and water dispenser. The pump to the ice maker works when I select water dispensing at the door and the line is clear, so that was not the problem. So, it must be the icemaker or some component of it - or, I guess it could be the computer. There were a few small cubes in the tray so I cleared them out. I reasembled the icemaker, installed it and have turned it back on. Water has not yet gone into the tray. If it does not eventually fill, I will fill it manually and see if it will cycle after it freezes. If not, I think I can be sure the problem is the icemaker. Again, thanks for your help.
