Thank you for your question.

  • Yes! I believe it would be worth repairing the front seal if you can find the seal, part number 501801.Manufacturer's new part number is:37001132 and RepairClinic.com item number is 1063784.) You will also need 55980 High temp seal for installing the felt seals. One tube for each seal.

  • Sears no longer is able to supply this seal, but you may be able to find it at a local appliance supply house using this number: 37001132.

  • I have included some repair related pictures for your benefit.

  • If you are going to repair this dryer I would suggest replacing both seals, front and back. The effort is not much more to do both.

  • Locate the two bottom screws at the bottom of the front panel and remove screws and then lower panel.

  • At the bottom of the upper panel that contains the dryer door assembly. Locate the two bottom screws and remove, the top panel will still be connected at the top of the cabinet pull out and down to release the upper panel from the cabinet frame. Be careful of the light wires and the door switch wires as they will connected from the wire harness. If you disconnect the wires, make a note of there proper location for re-installation.

  • Locate the four screws that hold the front bulk head to the dryer cabinet side panels and remove.

  • The front blower duct will also be attached to this bulk head.

  • With this removed you will have access to the front drum and seal. If you are just going to change the front seal you can proceed at this time. Remove the old seal and clean area, to prepare for the new seal and adhesive. I have put some pictures for you to reference as to how to properly attach the felt seal onto the drum. There may be instructions that come with the seal.

  • If you are going to replace the rear seal also, you will have to remove the drum from the cabinet, by first removing the drive belt.

  • Then lift the dryer drum from the cabinet. When re-installing the drum into the rear bulk head make sure you locate the drum on the drum support rollers.

I have also included the proper re-installation of the belt in a picture.

  • This can be a messy job, because of having to use the high temperature adhesive being applied to the seal to and then to the drum. I would suggest using some vinyl gloves or you will need wear the adhesive off your fingers. I have also added a picture of the proper installing of the felt seals onto the dryer drum. After you have installed the new seals on the dryer drum let it stand for a few minutes to let the adhesive set up.

  • Re-install drum and front bulk head assembly and front cabinet assembly parts.
