Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my Maytag top loading washer drain?

A:

I assume the motor will run in the spin and drain cycle. Your Maytag washer uses two (2) belts. One belt turns the transmission pulley and the other belt turns the drain pump. The drain pump belt could be too loose or off, the pump could be seized or there is some type of small garment stuck in the tub hose to pump.

Disconnect the power cord from the power source.

  1. Pull the washer away from the wall.
  2. Lean the back of the washer up against the wall. (Be careful that you do not damage the wall)
  3. Look underneath the base of the washer to see both belts and the pump pulley.
  4. Rotate the drain pump pulley by hand to confirm that it is not seized or that any clothing article is jammed inside.
  5. Place the washer back upright and remove the two (2) screws located at the bottom of the front panel.
  6. Tilt the bottom of the panel outwards and then pull it down and off.
  7. Locate the tub hose and squeeze it to see if you feel any clothing article stuck in the tub to pump hose.
  8. You may find something stuck in the hose or up inside the drain port where the tub hose connects.
  9. If the washer is a suds saver, check the solenoid valve operation where the two drain hoses would connect and check for any blockages.

Thank you for your response. I have read the questions of other customers and your experts response. I think I have found the answer I was looking for at that site. I think I need to replace the timer. Thanks again for your help.
