The carburetor is going to have to come off the engine. Given what all this sounds like, I just don't see any way around that.

You can get a rebuild kit (pt 49-019) and also watch THIS VIDEO to see how to go through the carburetor. The carburetor he's working on the video is from a snow blower, but it's going to be very similar to the one on your generator.

You can also just get a new carburetor (pt 670017B) if you'd rather go that route.

If there is not a fuel shut off valve on the fuel line, you may want to pick one up (hardware or auto parts store) and put it inline so you can shut the fuel off when not in use. When you know you're going to shut the machine down, just shut the valve off and let the engine run until it runs the carburetor out of gas. I've made a habit of doing that all the time on mine. I never have the fuel valve open unless the engine is running.
