Q:

Oven Installation for MEW9627AW. Missing parts and door question

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The two rear feet are part#W10318219.

The right front foot is part# W10471956.

The left front foot is part# W10471952.

I do not have the specifications of the screws. I would assume the screws will need to be very short sheet metal screws but I have no way of being certain but the part number of the black screws is #4450038 and it appears by the image on Google, the screw is about 3/4 of an inch long. I added an image of the screw below.

I recommend contacting Searspartsdirect.com and see if they will ship the missing feet and screws.

Now, the door hinges will have to be pulled downwards to the open position and then the lever must be flip up and over to keep the hinge in the open position. The hinge spring is very strong and you must use extreme caution when grasping the hinge and pulling it to open position. You may want to use a pair of Vise grips to lock on the hinge to open it. The installation instruction show how to remove the doors and it shows the lever that should have be hinged over to keep the hinge from slamming closed when the door is taken off.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

Hi Joe, Thanks for the help. IT turns out that the feet were not needed. You can use them to adjust the height for the opening and we had just enough space. You were right about the screws, sheet metal worked just fine. The other thing we were missing were the grommets for the screws to anchor the oven in place. Do they have a part number? The oven door was as simple as you please. The springs are really strong, but it is simply a matter of putting the door in place and pushing down on the door to relieve the pressure. The locks then come right up and you can flip them into position. I was just afraid to push on anything too hard until we were certain. Oven looks great and we are going to give it a go today. IS there any recommended procedure to "burn off" the new smells? We thought we would turn it on and the it sit for awhile, then cool, wipe out and try it again. We don't want the first cookies to have the new smell flavor!!! Thanks, Jim

Jim: Before cooking or baking, set the oven temp for 400 degrees and let it burn off all oil residue used in manufacturing for about 30 minutes and it should be ready for baking/cooking. Be aware it will smoke and smell until all the oil burns off. The grommets are part #W10283016

Check the door switch on the upper oven. See if the upper oven light will shut off with that switch pushed in. If it does, then the oven door may need adjustment so that it properly depresses the door switch when it is closed. Make sure that a rack or other obstruction is not preventing the door from closing properly.

If the light turns off properly with the door switch pressed in and you cannot adjust the oven door, then you will probably need to replace the hinges on the upper oven. I recommend that you have a service technician complete this type of repair. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

If you want to repair this type of problem yourself, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If the light stays on even when the oven door switch is pushed in and you are not able to turn it off, then you could have a bad door switch or a failed relay on the electronic oven control board. You can check the relay using the diagnostic test described below. When you enter the test, all relays should be off. If the light stays on even during this test, I recommend that you shut off the circuit breaker to completely disconnect electrical power. Leave the breaker off for 3 minutes. Reset the breaker to restore power. This may reset the control board and the light may not stay on constantly. The relay may start working properly. If not, I recommend that you have a service technician examine the oven and repair this problem. The technician will be able to check the door switch and the control board.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

Thanks Jacqueline, but I'm still confused exactly which screw it is... there are so many screws. I think it may be the idle screw, but I want to confirm before I place my order.
