MOWER WON'T MOVE 96012000700

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you’re having with the tractor. I know how frustrating that is.

Check that the Freewheel Release Lever did not get snagged on something and engage. That lever is typically by the rear drawbar of the tractor and is intended to allow the transmission to bypass so you can push the unit without running it if needed.

Next, look at the drive belt carefully. Most problems with drive originate at the belt, either because it is slipping too much to provide the input the transaxle needs or because it failed or came off altogether. Check the belt and pulleys for polished or rough spots to indicate problem areas and check any idler pulley assemblies are free of debris and can move freely so that the belt tension is correct. Check any belt guides are in place properly or the belt might be jumping out of position.

If everything looks okay there, check the locating keys in your rear wheels. Those keys lock the wheel assemblies to the axle so if a key is missing or broken it can allow the axle to spin without turning the wheels.

Check your engagement linkages to your transaxle. It’s possible something was knocked out of position with the shift mechanism and it is not engaging. While someone is moving the motion control lever, take a look at the linkage on the transaxle to see that it’s actually moving the lever.

And finally, on this model the transmission is sealed, but you could try performing an air purge on the transaxle. Purge the system by engaging forward and reverse a few times. Be sure you are in a clear area in case the engagement is abrupt or inconsistent until the air is all out. This is covered on page 14 of the manual.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
