Q:

Why is my Whirlpool Duet washer giving an F6 error code?

A:

The F6 error code for this model indicates a drive motor tachometer error. The control board is unable to properly detect the motor speed. If you have a volt/ohm meter I can give you a few checks that will help you diagnose the problem. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

You will need to gain access to the MCU (Motor Control Unit), and ohm the motor windings and the tachometer (see images below). The image that shows the MCU connection should be as it is in your washer, there should be 5 black wires and 1 green wire. The black wires are as follows, pin 1 on top and pin 5 on the bottom (see image). Set your meter to read resistance and check pin 1 to pin 2, pin 1 to pin 3, and pin 2 to pin 3, these should all read approximately 6 ohms. Next check pin 4 to pin 5, it should read approximately 115 to 125 ohms. If any of these readings are not very close to the values I have given you, check continuity on the wires from the MCU to the drive motor. If the wires check good, the drive motor is bad and will need to be replaced. If all readings are close to the values I gave and there is not an issue with the wires the MCU will need to be replaced.

You did not give me the model number; therefore I am unable to help you with any part numbers. If you have your model number I am including a link that you may input your model number and see a parts breakdown, please click here; Sears Parts Direct

If you require further assistance please resubmit your question with details of the checks you have made. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.

I have also been recieving the above referenced F 06 error code on my Whirlpool Duet HT Model GHW9300PW4 washing machine. I have been trying to narrow down the cause for the last several days. I came across your article listed above last night and performed the tests you requested on the MCU to Motor connections. Across my 1, 2, and 3 teminals I recieve between a 6 and 7 OHM's resistance. Across my 4 and 5 terminals it is at 185 OHM's. Does this lean you towards the motor being bad or the MCU. I have removed the MCU and also tested the wires and the terminal lugs that are directly attached to the motor. The wires OHMed out and the motor terminals are giving the same numbers. Any help would be appriciated.

Q:

Cold water wash not just cold water GHW9300PW4 Whirlpool Residential washer

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Whirlpool washer.

From the information you have provided above, I can understand the frustration of having your washer malfunction, after researching model number GHW9300PW4. Both hot and cold valves are turned on at the initial fill for approximately 20 seconds. After 20 seconds, the hot valve is turned off and the cold valve remains on throughout the wash fill. Depending on the cold water temperature. The water valve in the back of the unit can be damaged as well and not opening up the cold water side. I would suggest checking into this and seeing if this fixes the issue. The part number for the valve is 8182862.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears, we appreciate your business, have a great day.
