Q:

What size wire is needed for a craftmans air compressor model# 919186950? Why does the manual say no oil is needed when it clearly has an oil fill port?

The manual is worded to where it can be a little bit confusing. The bottom line is that under normal conditions you should never have to do anything with the compressor oil. It should suffice for the life of the pump. I have a model with the same pump (but it has a gasoline engine to power it) and we change the oil in the pump once a year when we change the engine oil. I do it no matter what because I would rather not have to buy another one anytime soon and oil is a lot cheaper than a new pump or compressor. Not everyone does it my way, but how I do it works quite well for me.

One thing I am curious about is that you said the unit brand new and never been used. I show this model number to be older. The model number was used twice on this, once in 1994 and again in 2000. Was the compressor back some time back and just never used (that happens, oddly enough) or did you just recently buy this from the store. If you just recently bought this from the store double check the model number on the machine and on the manual and let me know if anything with the model number is different. Also, on the model number tag there should be a production date (manufacture date) shown. The reason why I'm asking is because if the model number is different from what I'm looking at currently that may change everything.

As it stands, yes a double pole 15A breaker is fine. The manufacturer recommends 12, 10, or 8AWG wire. Anything smaller than that and there will be problems.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Thanks for the info! Oddly enough that is what happened. I purchased the unit at an auction not realizing that it required a 220 outlet. A few years went by and I am just now getting the outlet. It was made in 2000. What is the best weight of oil to use? I did not receive a manual when I bought it. Thanks again!

Oddly enough, the oil this unit will take is the standard over the counter "air compressor oil". It is labeled as such and can be picked at almost any auto parts retailer. In fact, I have yet to NOT see it in a parts house. I added the link to the owner's manual for you. If for some reason the link doesnt work, just click "manuals" towards the top of this page and put the model number in the search box and it will bring it up for you.
