Q:

pump runs and it will not build pressure above 30 pounds

A:

It becomes difficult to get the work done when the compressor does not work as it should. I found a great site devoted to troubleshooting compressors that may help while you wait for the expert. I also attached the owner's manual in case it is needed. Hope this helps!

This could be caused from a bad check valve or bad pressure switch. If the machine stops completely (motor goes off) too soon, then I would say the pressure switch is likely causing this. If the motor continues to run but the compressor does not build past around 30 psi, then I would think the check valve is causing the problem. This isn't something that happens all the time, but I do see it fairly often.

On the parts drawings, it is key number 38. The part number for it is CAC-437-2; you may order it HERE if you need it.

A:

Don,

If air is coming out of the vent in the oil cap the problem will be in the cylinder and rings. The piston rings are not sealing against the cylinder walls allowing the air to blow past and pressurize the crankcase. To repair this you will need to take the head and valve plate off. Then inspect the piston, ring, and cylinder. If the cylinder wall is still smooth, you should be able to get by with replacing the piston and rings. You can order the parts from the following link. Thank you for your question on the direction the motor should turn.

With the configuration of this air compressor and motor, the motor needs to turn clockwise.

If you look at the cooling fan built into the fly wheel you should the clockwise rotation will push air across the head for cooling.

Not all fly wheels have the fan built into the casting however.

I hope this will help.
