Q:

Compressor trips circuit when turned on. 919165000 Craftsman Air compressor

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com and being a valued member. It is unfortunate to hear that you are having issues with your compressor and I do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. I'm looking at your model number 91916500 and if the motor runs continuously for 10 minutes then the breaker trips, the problem is probably an overloaded or weak circuit breaker. Try the compressor on a different circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker trips when the motor on the air compressor is starting, there might be a problem with the motor or the check valve. Your air compressor will have a check valve on it. This check valve releases the pressure off the head of the pump. If that pressure it not released from the head then the motor cannot push the piston past it to get started. The first thing I want you to do is drain all the air from the tank. Once the air is drained, try to run the compressor and see what happens. If the compressor still blows the circuit, the motor is shot and will need to be rebuilt or replaced. If the compressor turns on and fills the tank or gets it nearly full (and blows the circuit) then it will be the pressure switch causing the problem. Here is a link that will help troubleshoot the problem you are having. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. I trust this information will help you.

Thank you for your question on the air compressor you filling the tank with compressed air.

If as you say there is air coming out of the air intake manifold then the reed valves are either broken or not sealing. They will need to be replaced.

I have four different models listed with a 919.165. 14,15,17, and 27.

Please make sure you have the correct model when ordering replacement parts.

You will need to order the reed plate kit and the two o-rings to make sure it will seal when you put it back together.

I will give you the link to the 919.165140 model but please check your model number off the cover to make sure you are ordering the correct parts. Items numbers in the image of 63,64,65.

Air compressor parts list .

I hope this will help.

A:

Hi Dan, Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. Since you did not provide a model number I can only give a basic response. With the information you have provide it could be serveral different problems. You could have worn out gaskets that are leaking, the check valve could be faulty or the safety valve is leaking.

If you have further questions please let me know.
