Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the air compressor. If the air is leaking out of the head when it is turned off the problem is the check valve in the tank. The check valve should hold the air in the tank. If it is not sealing the air in the tank will leaks back through the head. To repair the compressor you have to replace part number A19714.

If the compressor only leaks when it is, running there is a problem in the valve plate or the gaskets. The valve plate has two thin metal reeds that should seal. If they are broke, the air will come out intake. If the gasket is bad, it could blow out the intake. To repair this you have to take the air compressor apart and inspect the valve plate. If the place looks fine, go ahead and replace the gasket.

Parts needed can be ordered from our parts website: Sears Parts Direct .

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Please let me know if you need further assistance on the repair of the air compressor.

If you're unable to determine exactly where the leak is on the head you can mix up some dish soap and water then spray it onto the head area while the compressor is running. There will be bubbles where the air is leaking from.

My first thought on this is that the head did not get tightened correctly and the gasket has blown or that the head itself is cracked.

Unfortunately this is one of those situations where I would have to be at the machine to determine exactly where the leak is.
