I must replace the intake muffler (CAC-1046) on a Sear Air Compressor (919.150380) pump. Do I have to remove the Head and replace the Gasket?

Thank you for your question.

I can understand not wanting to take off anymore than you have to, to install the intake.

  • Yes you will need to loosen the head bolts.

  • You may be able to carefully get the top head up just enough to slip out the old piece and install the new one without disturbing the reed plates.

  • When you loosen the bolts take a sharp blade to carefully pry between the top head cover and the gasket without damage to the gasket.

  • Then when you tighten the head bolt they need 7 to 10 foot pounds of torque.
