Question and Answers

Q:

lawnmower will not start - nothing in manual is pertinent. Used last week. New oil, gas, air filter, etc. Tries to start when I pull the starter rope.

A:

You did not mention a spark plug was replaced. If you did not replace the spark plug, I would do that.

The engine on your lawnmower has an automatic choke. It sounds like the automatic choke is not working. To repair or check the choke, you have to remove the blower housing of the engine.

I recommend you take the mower to a Sears Parts and Service Center or a Sears Retail Store for repair. The mower has a 2 year warranty.

Q:

Why won't my lawn mower start after running over an object and shutting off?

A:

Be sure the operator presence control bar is being pulled all the way back. If the cutting blade hit something hard the flywheel key may have sheared. Whenever the flywheel key becomes sheared or damaged it can cause the ignition to get out of time. It is normal for the flywheel key to shear in order to protect the engine components from serious damage whenever the blades hit something hard. The repair will not likely be covered under warranty if the flywheel key is found to be damaged from hitting an object.

I recommend taking the mower in to have it inspected for any other damages and repaired.
