Q:

lawnmower control bar #917388950

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry to hear of the issue you're having with the control bar on the mower. I know how frustrating that is.

It sounds like an issue with the cable being binded or pinched. Follow the cable down to the engine and see if it's binding on something or being pinched in the handles. If it seems free and clear, there could be an internal cable issue where it has broken and will need replacement.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

how do i install a torsion spring on mulcher door of craftsman model 917.388950?

A:

I understand how difficult it can be to replace a part on your lawn mower. I have taken some time to research your question here on the Manage My Life website and I was able to locate a similar question to yours. I attached the link below for you to view while you are waiting on your response from an expert. I hope the link that I provided gets you one step closer to installing your torsion spring. Have a great day.

There is a bolt on bracket that holds the spring and door for your mower. It may be easier to remove that bracket to install the spring/door or it may not be. I like to do it with the bracket mounted onto the mower but other people do not. So if one way doesn't seem to be working for you, try the other.

I have attached a photo showing how the parts look when assembled (but not on the mower) to help give you an idea about how this goes together. You can leave the discharge chute (the outer flap) off if you're going to just be mulching.

Hold the guard (door) in place with the spring sitting in place as well. Push the rod through the bracket and on into the spring. Use a screwdriver to turn one "leg" of the spring and hold it (to keep tension on it) and push down to line the rod up with the other hole and have an assistant push the rod on through. If you do not have an assistant this can be done with your foot pushing the rod but it's a little bit difficult to keep everything lined up.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Q:

Why isn't my Craftsman rotary lawn mower getting gas?

A:

I assume that you are getting spark from the spark plug. The symptom that you described indicates a fuel issue. I recommend that you drain all of the old fuel from the tank and replace with fresh fuel. After replacing the fuel, pull on your starter rope. You may need to pull the rope three or four times. Leave the mower running on concrete surface for several minutes before mowing. This method will help clean any old gas out of the carburetor.

Before replacing the fuel, verify that the spark plug and filter are clean, this will allow the mower to run smoother.
