Thank you for contacting Sears. I will be more than happy to assist you with your Craftsman mower.

I can understand the frustration of your mower not functioning properly, after researching model number 917.388834. Unfortunately, your carburetor is not adjustable. If your engine does not operate properly I would suggest to take the mower to a local sears repair shop for any repair or adjustment.

I hope you found this information useful. Again thank you for choosing Sears. We appreciate your business, have a great day.

The governor guard appears to have one screw that holds it in place. One side, on the bottom end, should come to somewhat of a point which will point in the right hand direction. I am still trying to locate a photograph of this but as of yet, no luck.

I will continue looking for a photo or drawing how the guard mounts onto the engine and will post anything I find here on this thread.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Got a good night's sleep, re-read the install papers that came with the armature, had in on backwards, stopping the elec gen. for the plug. Put it back together after finding where the governor goes. Cranked right up. Thanks for your time.

Excellent! I'm still going to keep looking for some photos of that guard though, it won't hurt to have something like that on file here.
