A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

This Craftsman engine made by Tecumseh is equivalent to Tecumseh's LEV 105 engine. To help you with the rope replacement, I have linked the model specific service manual below. Rewind Starters are covered starting on page 35.

Thank you for your question. I will be happy to assist you on your Craftsman mower model 917.38860. The engine on your mower uses roughly 20 ounces of SAE30 motor oil. If you are changing the oil in the engine, I recommend pouring in about 16 ounces first. Then check to oil level and add as needed.  I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.  Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark T.

Q:

Lawn Mower keeps cutting off. It worked great last week.

A:

Having your lawnmower continuously cut off can be very aggravating. While you are waiting for your expert answer, I did some research on the unit. At this time, I was unable to locate information that would be helpful in regards to your question. Some of these questions that are asked will need specific research and will be answered by an expert with-in two business days but usually sooner.

Just so you know, the mower only stayed on for a few seconds each time it "started" before it died.

This will most likely be a problem with the carburetor. You can click the link below to view a video on how to clean up a carburetor like the one you have. The gentleman that made the video does an exceptional job explaining everything for this procedure in the video.
