Hi,

Thanks for contacting  ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance.

First remove the cover to the gearcase and check if the cable is still attached to the clutch.  Have someone activate the drive control and see if the cable moves the lever and most importantly when the control is disengaged does the clutch lever release the gearcase.  The clutch is spring loaded, see the pictures.

lawn mowers won't start,has weak spark. Briggs & Stratton engine Craftsman model 917.378891.I replaced spark plug and checked compression reads 60.Any ideas ?

If the spark is weak (should be strong blue spark) and the spark plug has been replaced then it's almost certain that the ignition coil is failing. You can click the link below and use the engine model number to find and order the correct ignition module for your mower engine.
