Q:

The pulley on my lawnmower will not pull. 917-378771

A:

Thank you for choosing SearsPartsDirect.com. I will be more then happy to assist you. From what your telling me it dose sound like your engine will be ok. What I would do so I could check and know its not seized. Remove the spark plug all the way and turn the fly wheel, and it should spin in full rotation.  If it dose not spin then your engine could be sized. If it dose make a full rotation the next part I would check would be the blade adapter. If the blade adapter is broken then it, the problems your having could be cause by this. The blade adaptor is the part right above the blade, also has the pulley on it for the belt. If you are not comfortable doing this repair you can Click Here to schedule a technician or call toll free 1-800-469-4663. Hope this information has help you, any further questions or concerns please feel free to comment back, thanks.

There are 2 problems going on here most likely.

1: The gasket behind the air filter housing and the carburetor. Get a 2nd gasket and stack them. The filter base can get warped (with time) slightly and cause priming problems. The gaskets are cheap and anytime I suspect a priming issue, I stack 2 there and that takes care of it.

2nd problem: The carb mounting screw holes are stripped. That may be the bigger problem. Take one of the screws to an auto parts store and tell them you need some "heli-coils" that will work with that size screw. You'll probably have to buy a little pack of them. Follow the directions on the pack to get them installed. If they do not come with instructions, search Youtube for directions to get them installed.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
