Question and Answers

Q:

How to remove the blade adapter from the crankshaft 917378060 Craftsman Lawn mower

A:

Thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com and for being a valued member.

To remove the blade adapter the gas should be drained or ran out of the tank so the lawnmower can be placed on the side. Lay the mower so the carburetor and air cleaner are up.

Block the blade with a piece of wood and remove the blade bolt and blade. The blade adapter should pull off the engine shaft unless it is rusted to the engine shaft. There will be a keyway that matches up with a slot on the crankshaft which holds the adapter from just turning on the shaft.

Try spraying rust buster between the engine shaft and the blade adapter and tapping the blade adapter with a hammer to help the rust buster penetrate. Tap on the back side of the blade adapter to tap it off the engine shaft.

If this procedure doesnt work, put the blade bolt back into the engine shaft and tighten it until the head is about an inch from the blade adapter. Use a gear puller to pull the blade adapter off the shaft.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

my mower will start cold, then stalls 917378060 Craftsman Lawn mower

A:

Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com. I regret to hear that you are having issues with your mower and do understand your frustration. Glad to help out. Im looking at your model number 917378060 and I suspect that the ignition module is going bad. A clear symptom of a bad module is that the engine will run for a few minutes then shut off and not turn on again until it cools. Here is a link for a video that will help testing. I have included a link to our PartsDirect page where you can purchase the part you need to complete your repair. Just click the blue link above to be taken to the page. If you have further questions please resubmit your question for further information.
