Q:

drive forward 917377880 Craftsman Gas, walk behind lawnmower

A:

Thank you for your inquiry on your Craftsman Lawn Mower, Model: 316.711020. From reviewing the detail on your model, to check the self-propel on your lawnmower first remove the belt cover on top of the lawnmower behind the engine. Is the belt on the transmission pulley? If not, then you probably have a broken belt. You have to remove the blade and the blade adapter from underneath the mower. Then you can remove the belt cover underneath the mower and install a new belt.

If the belt is in place start the engine and engage the drive. Don't stand in front of the mower while you do this. Does the pulley on the transmission turn? If so you need to remove one rear wheel and dustcover and see if the pinion gear inside each rear wheel is turning. If the shaft is turning but the gear is not you might have stripped teeth on the pinion gear.

Safety Warning: Before beginning the repair, disconnect the direct power supply to the lawn mower to prevent the risk of injury or any electrical shock.

If you don’t feel comfortable or confident in this repair, then you can have it repaired at home by a sears technician. I have the included a link to the website: Sears Home Services or call 1-800-469-4663.

Q:

Presence bar does not engage 917377880 Craftsman Gas, walk behind lawnmower

A:

Thank you for choosing Sears Parts Direct. I will be more than happy to help you. Upon researching model 917377880 I see that the presence bar has the cable running to the engine. TO check cable have some one pull the handle while you look at the end of the cable connected to engine. If it does not move or is difficult to move it could be stuck or streched. Where the cable connects pull it yourself to see if it will fire up if it does then it would seem like the cable.
I linked a diagram below. Number 13 is the cable.

If you have any further questions please re-post. Thank you for choosing Sears. Have a great day.

Q:

Mower Replacement Handle

A:

Getting correct parts to fit can sometimes be a challenge. Substitute parts can be more difficult. I see the picture and the issue. I did locate a similar question form a previous post and attached below. Hopefully the expert can help get the handle mounted.

A:

Based on your photo, I don't believe there is a way to make that handle work on your mower. I do show the part number used as being correct, but I have no way to verify that part number to the actual part. I would have figured the folks at Parts Direct would have been able to assist with that.

I have a feeling the right part number was used but the wrong part was grabbed or perhaps even they have the wrong part in the bins at the warehouse. Unfortunately I have no way to verify this.

I am going to send word over to Parts Direct to have them check into this potential problem but I don't know what that will do for your situation.

If anything comes up on this I will post the results here and you will receive an email alerting you to that.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!
