Does the engine sound any different than it used to? It could be a problem with the blade not being sharp enough if it only seems to cut differently. You may need to have the engine serviced if it hasn't been serviced in a while. Changing the spark plug, air filter, and blade may do wonders for the performance of your lawn mower.

Let me know a little bit more about how the engine is physically running and we can proceed from there.

The part number of the 9X2 wheel has changed from #180772 to a "wheel kit" part #193139 at $33.59. It can be ordered on line at Sears Parts Direct or you can call 1-800-252-1698.

Craftsman lawnmower (917.377823) broken spring connecting drive control cable to idler arm assembly

The drive cable will have to be replaced. The spring is not a replaceable part. The drive cable comes with the drive control (the part that mounts to the handle) attached. It is much simpler to replace the complete cable, control, and spring as one part.

The part number for the drive control cable is 189181, and the cost is around $20.00.

The drive cable is shown in the parts diagram on page 2, item 1.
