If you haven't checked for spark, I would do that before we go any further. To check you can take the spark plug out then plug it back into the lead. Use some insulated pliers or screwdriver to hold the base of the plug against the block. Have an assistant pull the starter while you watch the tip of the plug to see if you can see spark. If you cannot see spark make sure you are holding it good against the block. If you still have no spark, do you have a new spark plug? If so, access the ignition module and unplug the small "kill wire" and then check for spark. If you then have spark, there is a problem with the kill circuit. If you do not have spark with the little wire removed, the ignition module is bad and will need to be replaced.

If you have spark when you test it, then I would think we are dealing with a problem in the carburetor. You will need to get some carb/choke cleaner and open the carb up. Once you have the carb open you will need to clean the bowl, all the jets you can see, and the needle valve assembly. Put everything back together and use a short burst of carb cleaner as a starting fluid to see if the engine will start. If it does and continues to run, shut it down and wait 10 minutes then try to restart. If it will not start with just priming/choking but will start with the carb cleaner then you will need to open the carb back up and clean it again.

Q:

How do you remove the engine pulley for model 917.377641?

A:

The engine pulley is rusted to the engine shaft. Spray the inside of the pulley with rust buster and tap on the pulley to cause the rust buster to penetrate.

Remove the washer from the blade bolt and screw the bolt into the engine shaft 1/2-3/4 inch. Hook a gear puller up to the engine pulley and let the bolt in the puller push against the head of the blade bolt. The puller will remove the pulley.
