Q:

model # 917377562 917377562 Craftsman Rotary mower

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

Remove the blower housing and flywheel to access the upper crankshaft oil. You should be able to pry the old oil seal up and off. Be careful to NOT scar/scratch the surface where the outer seal mates to the block.

To help you out with the oil seal service, I have linked below the Tecumseh service manual applicable to this engine. The oil seal service section starts on page 87.

Tecumseh Service Manual for Model 143.986500

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.

Q:

How do I find a model number for my Craftsman Eager-1 mower, when the decal/plate has been removed?

A:

It can be extremely difficult finding parts or any information on mower when you can't find a model number. I did some research and provided a link to further assist you with the problem. I hope this will shed some more light on the issue until the Expert responds to your question in more detail within 24 to 48 hours.

A:

If the model/serial number sticker has been removed then there is no way to know for sure what the model number is on the machine. If you are the original purchaser, you may be able to contact customer service (1-800-4-MY-HOME) and see if they can locate the model number that was input when you bought the machine.

If you find a machine that's very similar then you can likely just use parts from that model number for your machine. Engine parts can be located using the engine model number. So if there is a model you find that matches everything other than the engine, you can use that model number for mower parts.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

Thank you Wade. I had been operating under the assumption of a best match is usually okay. You are the expert, so that gives me a little more sense of trust to do it that way. I do have the engine number, so that is no problem. BTW - Tecumseh engines have a model number reference manual for their system. Sears has a method to their Model numbering as well, no doubt. If I knew that, I could figure it out. Where could I find out about the system used by Sears, or Craftsman for model number? For Example 917.xxxxxx Tells me Rotary mower (917), and (.) tells me Craftsman made it.

The model numbers for Craftsman mowers/tractors can be a little bit "all over the place" at times. Here's the basics: "917" means that AYP (Husqvarna) manufactured the machine. Typically, after the 917 the next number will determine tractor/tiller (2) or walk behind mower (3). The rest of the numbers will determine different series/engine/deck size configurations. Honestly, I don't remember what they all mean and I'm not currently able to find the little "cheat sheet" with that information on there. Which may come off as a little bit odd, but I never really need that sort of information. But now you've got me to thinking about it and I'll have to see if I can come up with something that I can publish here.

Q:

reassembling carburetor 917377562. how do i find a diagram for this models carburetor and/or find out what moves the throttle form inside the case might be brok

A:

The governor inside the engine moves the governor arm back and forth and causes the links between the governor arm and the carburetor throttle plate to rotate controlling the speed of the engine. If the governor arm is moving back and forth as you speed the engine up and slow it down, the governor inside the engine is working.

You can get the model number off the engine and go to searspartsdirect.com and see the internal parts of the carburetor and engine. Our information shows the engine on the mower to be model 143.986500.

I am sending you some images of different carburetor linkage connections for engines similar to yours. Select the image that is closest to yours and connect the links accordingly. You might have to move the links several times to get it right.

Be sure the linkage is moving freely and not sticking when you rotate the throttle plate. If the linkage is sticking and binding it will effect the way the engine runs.
