I've had this come up a few times in the past. The manufacturer does not provide that information due to safety concerns. Their stand is that if the lever assembly has been opened up that the integrity of the spring is now in question. Their recommendation is that if the spring has come out, the whole assembly must be replaced.

I have no way to get a photo of how the spring should be placed in the housing because of all this. If it were a newer mower I would likely have one here at our facility but with this being an older machine we do not have one here.

Their fear is that if the spring is not correct that you may release the handle and the mower will continue to drive.

I wish I could do more to assist you with this, but I'm afraid our hands are tied.
