Question and Answers

Q:

Is there any to change the speed of the self propelled mower? It races at top speed and the engine is running full out?

A:

This engine has a governor that controls the speed. You could have a stuck throttle or a problem with the governor linkage. You can view a parts list diagram for the engine on the Sears PartsDirect website. The model number for the engine is 12H802-1534-21. The images below show the governor linkage and spring on a similar engine model. Make sure that the linkage and spring are in place. Check the throttle to see if it is stuck. This may help you correct this problem. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Q:

The control bar on my Craftsman 6.0 Gold Walk Behind lawn mower is disconnected and I can't figure out how to reconnect it. Is there a diagram available?

A:

We don't have an image of the connection for your cable. These cables almost always connect with a Z fitting on the end. When they become disconnected it is usually because the end of the Z has broken off.

I suspect the reason you can't reconnect the cable is because the end of the Z is broken off. When this happens, you need to replace the cable.

A:

The "Z" fitting is still on the end of the cable, and is unbroken. What I can't figure out is how to run the cable through the various parts of the throttle mechanism, and what hole to put the Z fitting in. There could be fittings missing, but I can't see any obvious missing pieces, which is why I need to see an image of the mechanism properly connected.
