Getting to and removing a riding tractor gas tank would be a project that needs some direction. I did locate a similar question that may help while you wait for the expert response. I also added the parts diagrams from Sears Parts Direct if helpful. I hope this information helps to make this job easier.

Thank you for submitting your question. To remove the gas tank, first remove the screw towards the engine cover (boxed in red on the image below). Once the cover is remove look around the fuel tank. Remove any screws you see mounting the tank. Then remove the dipstick and pull up on the fuel tank. The tank usually has tabs that fit into the blower housing so make sure to line those up before you push the tank back on. If you need further assistance, please reply back to this thread. I hope this helps. Thank you for using Manage my life.

Q:

I have a Craftsman self propelled mower, model 917.377273. I ordered part 48385. I need to install the existing cable to part 48385. Is it that hard to install the cable onto the control head? If ...

A:

If you remove the cable from the gear box and the drive unit from the mower and take the old and new drive units to a flat place it won't be so difficult.

Disconnect the cable from the old drive unit first. Note the position of the parts inside the old drive unit.

Separate the halves of the new drive unit with the drive unit laying down so parts don't fall out. You should then be able to attach the old cable to the new drive unit. Then install the drive unit and cable on to the mower.
