Hi,

Thanks for contacting ManageMyLife. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your appliance not working.

Check your oil and make sure it is not overfilled. If that looks to be okay I think we may be looking at a breather reed problem or possibly even a broken piston ring.

If the oil does appear to be overfilled, smell it to see if it smells like gasoline. If it does there is a problem with the carburetor. If it does not, then just drain some of the oil out and then run it for a bit to see if the problem clears up.

No matter what the cause is/was, if the smoke was coming out of the muffler that means there is oil inside the muffler. It will take about 20-30 minutes of running time to burn all that out.

Please feel free to let me know if you need further assistance. We are always here to help.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com.

Based on your symptom and details the problem is in the carburetor. The carburetor bowl will need to taken off and cleaned. The float (key#133) and needle valve (key#134) operation will need to checked. The main jet (key#117) will also need to cleaned of any blockages.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services
