Q:

Electric Start Problem 917376742 Craftsman Lawn mower

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the mower. If the electric starter on the mower is not working, I recommend charging the battery for 24 hours. Then try to use the electric start. If it still does not work, check for a blown fuse. The fuse is located in the harness between the key switch and the mower housing. If the fuse is ok, you will need a meter to do some voltage checks to diagnose the mower. If you have a meter, turn it to check DC volts. Then place the leads on the connector for the battery. You should have roughly a 12-volt reading. If you do not have 12 volts, I recommend accessing the battery and check the connections between the battery and the charging connector. I posted an image below that shows how to access the battery.

Hi Jeff: Thanks for the quick reply... my model is different from this photo.. mine has no fuse that I can locate... or see visibly , the battery on my model is mounted in the handle assembly behind a black mid section shroud... I have fully charged my battery and also bench tested the starter motor.. but when i reinstall them and turn the key I get nothing.. I have also rigged the battery directly to my starter and it does turn/crank what is the possibility of a bad ignition switch/harness? Is there any saftey lock out in the circuit that i can check?? Thanks Lou

Q:

Mower model 917376742 lower handle replacement 433842X479 doesn't fit 917376742

A:

Thanks for the inquiry and for being a valued member.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the handle. I will be happy to assist you. Push the sides of the handle in to fit it to the mounting pins. The reason it is spread out a little is so that it stays in the locking notches in the brackets. First, put one side on the pin. Then push the other side in and place it on the other pin. It will mount if you do that.

I hope this helps and thanks for using SearsPartsDirect.com. We appreciate your business.
