Q:

why does my lawn mower drive cable keep breaking?

A:

Hi Brian. I have had the same problems. Looks like you are using the right diagram. Did you look through the manual also? I attached the link below. If that fails it may be time for expert repair. An option would be to visit SearsHomeServices and use the scheduler. I attached the link below. For the manual just click on manual from your diagram page.

This can't be so difficult that it requires professional repair, it's only a cable. It's just that the manual and the diagrams don't show the detail that I need to be sure I am doing the repair right or not. Plus, I just bought the cable, is Sears going to charge me for another one? It looks like it. So with the $20.99 for the cable + shipping +$56.99 for sears to repair it +$20.99 for another cable (+ shipping?) I'm almost half way to the cost of a brand new mower. I've been fixing things for years, it's one of the reasons I like buying Sears products - I can easily get the manuals & parts. I just cannot believe that my only solution is to take it in for repair. I'm not happy about this.

It is easy to connect the drive cable to the gearbox wrong. I hope that is what is causing the drive cable to break.

I am sending you 3 images showing how the drive cable connects to the gearbox.

There it is. I was connecting the cable properly to the gearbox but I see that the snap-in plastic part of the cable is underneath the chassis. Can you send me a picture or explain how you get that plastic end through the topside of the chassis so that it can be snapped into place under there?
