Remove the drive wheels and check the "teeth" on the inside of the wheels and the little gear that drives the wheels (also behind the wheel). If those look good then the belt may be worn out and in need of replacement.

Thank you for using Manage My Life!

I have gone thru 2 sets of tires within a 10-use time period stripped teeth on inside tire. Unfortunately last time I took off the wheels I misplaced the Oring and washers. I am sure I have them, but the diagrams does not describe. I see my back wheels have a very thin metal washer. On the tire opening there are three notches on the outside of the opening, what are they for? I am assuming the notches are there for a reason. Can you please describe the necessary washers when replacing a tire on a self-propelled walk behind mower? In case I cannot find the washer, please include correct part number if possible. Thanks.

Q:

Craftsman lawn mower has no throttle control

A:

I can certainly understand when your wife does not want to use the Craftsman lawn mower without a throttle control.  On page 17 of the Owners manual it does mention if you believe the engine is running too fast, take it to the nearest service unit.  Additional information from the expert may take two business days.  Thanks for your patience.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

This model mower does not have a throttle control. The engine speed is set at the factory for optimal performance and for cooling. It is non-adjustable. There is not any add on manual control available. Running engines mower engines at lower speeds can cause the engine to overheat and cause engine damage.

If you feel the engine is running to fast, I recommend taking the mower back for service.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.

i have owned self-propelled lawn mowers for 50 years with throttle controls and the load on the engine is in proportion to the engine speed. Never has there been a failure of engine components or premature burning of the engine oil. This move is only to cut costs of a product-----why not remove the spare tire from a car to cut costs? I will buy, or remove the control from another mower.

I have a craftsman 2013 platnum 7,25 horsepower and it has no throttle control either. If i had my receipt , I would return the piece of junk. once the mower gets hot from use and you go to start it from empting the bage just once , it refuses to start. If this is so efficent of a design to have no throttle control than you need to tell the engineers who designed this mower that they are full of bologna. Stupid engineers !!

Q:

engine 917376401

A:

Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears PartsDirect.com

I am sorry and do understand your frustration when there is trouble with the engine.

Glad to help out.   Im  looking at your Craftsman lawnmower model number 917376401.  You have an original Briggs and Stratton engine model number 126T02-1346-B1.

When is the last time you have replaced the air filter.  Need to have a clean air filter for the air flow.   Always good to replace a new spark plug too.

Next check your muffler/exhaust.  If the air going in and out is bad then that causes backfire.

air filter for model 126T02-1346-B1

spark plug for model 126T02-1346-B1

Muffler for model 126T02-1346-B1
