I can appreciate all of the effort you have made to resolve this traction issue you are currently having. I did locate a link that will discuss your situation in greater detail. Though this link discusses a different model number, the mechanics are likely going to be very similar. Keep in mind that an expert will be responding within the next two business days if not sooner and will likely offer you more information and instruction. I hope this link will help guide you as to what might be wrong with your mower and have a nice day.

So glad to hear that I am not alone. Checked belt but it was fine. Mower is 917 376592. It used to propel but now it seems like it's a push mower. I look forward for the expert suggestions.

I know that it can be very frustrating to have a continuous problem with your lawn mower. However, I am not seeing any type of recall or rework on this model. In order for there to be a recall or rework, the manufacturer would need to release one. This model was manufacturer by AYP (American Yard Products) which is now a division of Husqvarna. If you would like more information on this you would need to contact them. If you need further assistance, please reply to this thread. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

My question is a bit different -now.. Our mower (craftsman 917 376592) has a wire to twist to change the speed. it wont twist by the handle so I twisted it at the base where it enters the drive cover. Which way am I to twist the wire to increase speed. what can we do to keep it going faster. It did start moving once I started playing with the drive wire.

By the way, going to the Husqvarna site is useless if you have a craftsman and I was unable to find a AYP site.

Amysue, on this model the drive wire needs to have tension in order to increase the speed. If you pull the wire towards you, it will speed up. If you let it go, it will slow down. You can adjust the tension for this at the handle. The image below will show you how to do this. As for Husqvarna, it is best to give them the part number for the tires. This is what they will have in the system. The part number for the tires is 194245X460. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you for using Manage My Life.

Anne- thank you. We tried twisting it at the handle at first without any success. that's why I went down the drive wire to where it inserts into the cover over the drive belt. how do we keep this tighter all the time so that the mower self propels. What a silly way to control the speed. It has improved --anything is better than what it was b4-No-it doesn't take off. AmySue

Amysue, I agree that this is a very silly way to control the speed. However, the lawn mower is not suppose to self propel at all times. This is why as soon as the handle is released the lawn mower slows down. You can try a pair of channel lock pliers to hold the piece in place, but this is very dangerous. If the mower gets away from you, it will not stop. Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
