Q:

How to replace the drive cable for a Craftsman mower model 917.376150? How do I reattach the new cable? The old one broke off near spring?

A:

I am sending you some images showing the the attachment of the drive cable to the gear case. You will need to loosen the cable from the drive control on the handle to give you more slack for installing the end into the gear case. Adjust the cable at the control when you are through installing.

Hi Tom,

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

There is not a kit available. The cable should come with a cable guide (see images below). Make sure this cable guide is intact and in place. It should be inserted into the slot in the mower deck that the cable is routed through.

Q:

: walk behind self-propell, will not stay running,

A:

Based on your symptom there is likely a carburetor issue. The carburetor will likely need to be removed, inspected and repaired. You could try one simple procedure that may work. Underneath the carburetor bowl is a nut. The nut is used to hold the carburetor bowl in place as well as fuel metering device. Remove the nut and look to see if the little holes in the side of the upper portion are stopped up. Clean the small metering holes and then reinstall the carburetor nut and then see if will remain running. NOTE: Fuel will pour out from the opening once the fuel bowl is removed. Drain the gas tank before removing the nut.
